Top 5 Bets for Super Bowl XVLI
Betting and the Super Bowl, it goes together like peanut butter and jelly, chips and salsa, Rob Gronkowski and porn stars. So if you find yourself if Vegas or in the Lake Tahoe/Reno area this weekend (or maybe you found and off-shore site you trust) and want to put a few bucks down on the game to make it interesting here are some of my favorite bets for the Big Game.
Quick gamblers note – If the number is negative it takes that much money bet to win $100, if the number is positive that is how much you win if you bet $100 (For example – if the number is -185 (favorite) then it takes a $185 bet to win $100 ($285 in your pocket) but if is +185 (underdog) then you win $185 if you bet $100 ($285 in your pocket).
1) How Long Will it Take Kelly Clarkson to Sing the National Anthem (From first note starts until she completes saying Brave)
Over 1 Minute 35 Seconds (-115)
Under 1 Minute 35 Seconds (-115)
I always like to start the game breaking out the stopwatch, while other people are still getting their snacks ready or opening that cold beer I am hanging on every note and praying that they stretch out “Home of the Brave” for just a few more seconds to cover the OVER bet.
My Pick: Over 1 min 35 seconds.
2)Giants vs Patriots – Will Either Team Score in the First 6 Minutes of the Game
It’s the Super Bowl, I always feel that player’s emotions are elevated and more mistakes are made, leading to more punts. And for this bet to win it would only take 1 or 2 punts from both teams for no one to score in the first 6 minutes of the game.
My Pick: No (-105)
3)Will the game be tied after 0-0?
I have to think this game will be a back-and-forth game, and the more scoring there is the more chance the game has to being tied at some point other than at kick off. A caveat to this is that if the Giants kick 2 field goals and the Patriots score a touchdown when the game is tied at 6-6 before the extra point that does not count. Even with that special condition I think at some point the game will be tied.
My Pick: Yes (+115)
4)How many players will attempt a pass during the game?
Over 2.5: +290
Under 2.5: -350
I really don’t see anyone other than Tom Brady and Eli Manning attempting a passing play, so even though the under has a lot of juice (term meaning you have to put up a lot of money to win a little). This one almost seems like a slam dunk win with the under.
My Pick: Under 2.5 (-350)
5)Super Bowl MVP
Eli Manning (+175)
If you think the Giants are going to win, then this is a great value pick. 6 of the past 10 Super Bowl MVP’s have been QB’s and historically there have been 24 QB MVP’s compared with 7 RB’s and 6 WR’s.
Zach’s Lock of the Game
Team to receive the opening kickoff
New York Giants: -260
New England Patriots: +200
For the simple reason – On Sept 7, 2008, New England played the Kansas City Chiefs, won the toss and elected to receive. That was the day Tom Brady was lost for season with a torn ACL. Since that day, the Patriots have played 65 games—playoffs included—and won the coin toss 28 times. On all 28 occasions, New England elected to defer their choice to the second half and started the game by kicking off.”
My Pick: New York Giants: (-260)
Good luck to everyone and let me know what your picks are in the comments below.
