The WarZ is an upcoming release from Hammerpoint Interactive.  It follows the whole survival horror genre that the game DayZ made popular with its mod for Arma2.  The WarZ is planned to be released this year, but an alpha version for the game was expected to be released on the 15th.  Sorry zombie lovers, but the alpha will also be accompanied by a Non-Disclosure Agreement, so no new screen shots from in-game content for you.

There are three different price packages available for the WarZ, valued at $20, $30 or $50. Each of the three different options include bonuses for game content or additional players.

I purchased a copy of The WarZ for $30, which gives you three guest keys to give to your friends that gives them access to the game for a short period of time, along with other bonuses like getting the Alpha earlier than those who bought the game through the $20 option.

The WarZ is set in an open environment, which allows you to freely explore the whole map. Your main goal for the game is to stay alive. It’s a MMO so you will be playing with a lot of other people at the same time as you fight against the many zombies trying to kill you. You do this by finding weapons, food, drinks and medical supplies scattered throughout the landscape to help you survive as long as you can.

Zombies are not the only threat because friendly fire is constantly on so you could be having a nice stroll in the forest with your big guns, when someone could easily kill you and take your hard-to-find supplies. The big thing about this game is that you’re free to do what you want, whenever you want. You can be the hero and try to keep other real life players alive, forming alliances, building new friendships and working to find supplies together.

The WarZ also has a chat system where you can talk locally by typing to each other. At this time, there has beeen no word on whether the WarZ will include a global chat feature, allowing you to talk to everyone at once. This is nice, because you don’t know how many people are near you, so there could be someone in the treeline looking at you while you carefully look through towns for weapons.

If you’re a fan of DayZ then this will be a game to look out for and play while waiting for DayZ to go standalone. One of the reasons I stopped playing DayZ is that the majority of the servers you go on to play have hackers who think it’s funny to spawn next to you and kill you. Hopefully the hacking situation won’t be as big of an issue in The WarZ.
