Capcom has released a batch of screenshots and details for their upcoming remake, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Originally released in 2010 for the Wii, Monster Hunter 3 was a critical and commercial success and arguably one of the console’s best titles. The game puts you in the role of a hunter who must complete tasks for their Guild and for the betterment of their village. You start out with your choice of weapon and a few objectives that are completed by either slaying particular monsters or gathering certain items. After taking down a monster, you can carve it (sometimes in a variety of ways) to gain materials used to complete objectives, to sell, or to upgrade your weapons and equipment. Each creature has its own unique behaviors, strengths, and weakness that you will have to learn in order to defeat or capture it. What makes the Monster Hunter games special is their incorporation of cooperative play. You can have up to three additional hunters join your party to help take down some ridiculously huge beasts. Having more players increases the difficulty of your targets, but it also increases the rewards.
In Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, teaming up with friends promises to be easier than ever as the 3DS and Wii U are much more friendly to online play than the Wii. There is a local search feature on the 3DS to make it easy to find fellow hunters to team up with. The 3DS and Wii U versions will also be compatible with each other, so people playing on 3DS can join in with people playing on the Wii U. If you own both, your character and save data are transferable between systems. The touch screen interface on both systems will allow for easier navigation of the menus and maps. There will also be significant improvement in terms of graphics, which will be upgraded to HD.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is being developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It is scheduled for release in March of 2013.
