It was revealed today, Friday 14th September, that the highly popular gaming retailer Gamestation would be re-branded as GAME stores.

Both companies are owned by Game retail and have been ever since Gamestation was acquired by the group from Blockbuster in 2007.
This will mean an end to Gamestation but ever since GAME took over the retailer, the classic Gamestation, which was adored by many gamers, was lost. The store made its name by being number one on the high street for prices of games, trade-in prices and its attitude towards the customers. The staff and attitude to the store seemed very hardcore gaming orientated.
With the Game Retail group purchasing Gamestation in 2007, it meant that all prices were the same in both GAME and Gamestation stores. As instore and online prices for the stores became higher than rival online retailers such as Amazon, Play and Shopto, the Game Retail group was placed into administration with several GAME and Gamestations being forced to close down due to the company’s struggles.

The future is looking brighter for the stores though because of fresh investment in the company, the group is now able to move forward and has seen a rejuvination within GAME stores especially. This latest development mainly means that GAME will survive and I believe this will help the company in its future endeavours.
