Free-to-play mecha game Heavy Gear Assault coming to PC

Publisher Stompy Bot Productions and developer MekTek Studios are bringing Heavy Gear Assault, a free online mulitplayer title for PC.

The game revolves around Gear duels, where players customize their Gears to bring them into arenas. The war machines resemble giant mechas, and fight in competitive, action-packed fights on the planet Terra Nova. Victors will profit in investments that lets them do advance modifications, climbing the dueling ladder and going into more dangerous, exclusive events.

The developers are looking to balance the expected long-range combat with a mix of deadly melee fighting that will permit combos. With a dynamic destruction engine, they plan on showing off the damage in specific areas, creating game-relevant tactics: shooting a leg to slow down, or an arm to disable a weapon.

“MekTek Studios has a talented team composed of industry veterans, and we are excited to be working with such an esteemed team.  We expect great things from this partnership,” said James Taylor, President of Stompy Bot Productions.

Heavy Gear Assault has no specified release date as they are looking for pledges to help them bring about the title. “As a crowdfunding contributor, you will be among a small group of people that will be instrumental in the foundation of something potentially huge,” they write on their website. “You’ve seen what we have in mind and the vision of where this could go. We want to create a game that the mech community will get excited about and want to play.”

You can pledge money here. All money pledged will be refunded equivalently as in-game currency. The more pledged, the more in-game  goodies you can expect. Pledging $150 lists “making of” copy, a graphic novel, key chain, and poster, along with a year of premium subscription. Notably, $10,000 gives tons of unique benefits, like a custom-created character, and invitations to meet with the creators individually, at conferences, and at the launch party.
