Many fitness nuts out there always focus on taking in enough protein for muscle development, but often forget about consuming carbohydrates. Carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables and natural grain products are the main energy source for the human body. Call it the gas in our gas tank if you will. Without this fuel, our bodies will feel sluggish and we will be lacking that fire and the energy we need to feel alert and ready to tackle the day and the workout we have ahead of us.
You may have heard of people “carb loading” before a race or big event. This does not mean to go eat a huge bowl of fettuccine alfredo. A better choice would be a natural grain product such as oatmeal, granola or rice and a vegetable or fruit on the side. The more natural the carbohydrate you choose to consume, the better off you will be.
Natural carbs are those that come straight from the earth. Processed carbs are products which man takes from the earth, does a whole bunch of stuff to and then serves. If you can pick it from a garden, you are good to go.
