After spending the best part of a week at work telling people the genuine reasons why they should buy the DOOM 3: BFG Edition, I feel now is the time to focus all my efforts onto the lovely GameNTrain readers. There is a mahoosive mountain of reasons why you should purchase this beast of a bundle and I hope to scratch the surface and show you just why you should part with your cash.
Aside from being one of the most influential first-person shooters of all time, this package contains not 1 or 2, but 3 DOOM games! That’s right folks. The BFG Edition contains the whole trilogy of DOOM games! In a box that retails for around £30/$30, this represents a lot of value for money. DOOM 1 & 2 are both featured in all of their original low quality glory, whilst DOOM 3 has been given a HD polishing and now runs at 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Did I also forget to mention that it runs in 3D too? Christmas has well and truly come early. Retro game lovers like myself should be singing the original DOOM theme in their heads right about now… (For those who have trouble remembering, please click here)
After being bought by Bethesda owning giant ZeniMax Media, it would seem that id Software’s dormant DOOM franchise is being given a new lease of life. I can only speculate that the release of the DOOM 3: BFG Edition is a signal from id Software that a DOOM 4 is somewhere on the horizon and with good sales figures for the DOOM 3: BFG Edition, we can expect a massive amount of investment and backing for the next installment of DOOM.
The bottom line is: It’s a bargain. It’s a classic. Fork out the money and prepare to be scared shitless.
Toodle pip!
