Call of Duty Is Better With A Shotgun In Hand
I have been a Call of Duty player since the beginning. I began as a campaign player as many original fans of the series were. As the years went on, Infinity Ward blew up the industry with its hit title Modern Warfare. From that day on I and many others were addicts for the COD way of gaming.
Through this time I was often plagued with frustration as I was just not able to become an elite player. I put in hundreds of hours into each of the yearly titles, and even though I was a good player, I never became great. Because of this, I would put the game down and allow it to collect dust while I spent time playing other games such as Borderlands. This trend continued as I would throw the latest COD disk into my console, play for a few months and then hop onto something new and less frustrating. The latest sidestep from Modern Warfare 3 has been Borderlands 2.
Tonight, after watching an inspirational video montage of the COD series, I decided to put down Borderlands 2 and give Modern Warfare 3 another shot. During this re entry to the COD world, I realized the secret to my happiness in the game. Runnin’ with the Shotgun. The shotgun is not the answer to me becoming an elite COD gamer, but this weapon class does solve the anger and frustration issues I was having. The reason why is pretty simple…
When running with your “Try Hard” class with a weapon such as the ACR or the MP7, if you have a bad round (which for me is often) you would become frustrated and questioning why you are not doing better. Using a shotgun puts you into a completely different mindset for the round. When running with a shotgun such as the KSG or the USAS, your goal is similar to any normal round, but when you get killed you can say, “Hey, I have no range. I am using a shotgun”. When you have a good round and you own the other team, you can say “Man that was awesome. I kicked some tail and I was using a shotgun”. All the while the other team will be pissed at you and calling you a Noob for using the weapon. In reality, a shotgun is a much more difficult weapon to use than many of the assault rifles and SMG’s in my opinion.
The whole idea of this is that the shotgun alters your mindset, from taking the game so seriously to where it isn’t even fun, to the point where you are playing to have a blast. Who would have thought that a simple weapon swap could change the game and I will even say the franchise so much. Give the shotgun class a shot. They take a little to get used to, but if you stick with it for a few rounds, you will gain a little skill and see the hidden side to Call of Duty. Yea, believe it or not, it can be a blast.
