Interview with Kurt Vincent from Arcade Movie
I was able to sit down and talk with Kurt Vincent from the documentary project Arcade Movie. The Documentary Arcade Movie coming out in 2012 is a documentary that captures the last moments of New York’s own Chinatown Fair before it closed in March. Chinatown Fair Arcade was an arcade nestled into the heart of Chinatown that appealed to everyone. On the advice of his girlfriend Kurt Vincent went out with his camera to the arcade to capture some footage. What started out as a project to record footage in an Arcade has blossomed into a huge documentary not only covering the arcade but also the community that thrives around arcades.
Chinatown was more than just an arcade, it was a cultural landmark. The arcade was a place that anyone could hang out at and enjoys themselves. The arcade started in the 50’s as a fair shop contacting a gift shop, mechanical rides and even a lunch counter. Overtime and changing hands former manager Henry Cen built the Fair up into one of Chinatown and NYC’s top arcades. Some of the top games like Justin Wong, Arturo Sanchez, Sanford Kelly and frequented the arcade and called it home.
Henry Cen has now moved his arcade now called Next Level in Sunset Park, NY but the legacy of CF will last forever. Arcade Movie is a great project and it needs your support to continue growing.
